Sunday Sketch | Brooke Takara

This week, our scrapbook sketch is an 8.5" x 11" layout that features a centered design. Our card sketch repeats a sentiment in the background, and our pocket page sketch uses two 3" x 4" journaling cards with a square photo. Creative Team Contributor, Brooke Takara, is joining us this week and sharing how our card sketch translated into a 12" x 12" layout! Be sure to follow Brooke here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her.

Our scrapbook sketch comes from Anna-Maria Wolniak's It's Too A.M. layout:

Our card sketch comes from Aga Malyszek's Thank You card:

Our pocket page sketch comes from Kelly Noel's June spread:

And here's Brooke's take on our Scrapbook and Documenter sketches:

Happy Sunday! Brooke here today to share my take on this week's sketches. I chose to use the card and documenter project sketches as my inspiration for this traveler's notebook spread.

Starting with the documenter inspiration, I took the angled line from the sketch and lifted the idea literally by cutting an angled sheet of the black striped patterned paper to anchor the upper right corner of the spread. Next, drawing inspiration from the card sketch, I stamped the title, "Happy Thought", randomly on the lined paper.

Placing the circle puffy stickers from the August kits along the border of the striped paper creates a sense of flow and cohesion across the spread by tying in colors and hiding the harsh line.

Sticking with the same color scheme of the circles, I matted the photo with a pink patterned paper. The vellum adds texture and lightness to an otherwise heavy spread. I used a piece of one of the tear strips to anchor the photo cluster to re-iterate the b/w stripes from the opposite side. And to brighten everything just a tad, and put emphasis on the photo and my journaling, I brought in that pretty, summery yellow! (Looking at the piece of yellow paper now, I can see that I should've tucked it down a little more.)

Here's a look at the final spread...

I know I've said it before, but using up my leftover kit items to create a quick traveler's notebook spread is really my favorite way to spend creative time these days. I do hope you're inspired to play along with this week's inspiration and make the time to create! Even if it's just a quick notebook project like this one. Thanks for joining me today!
