Sunday Sketch | Maggie Massey
This week, our scrapbook sketch is a 12" x 12" layout using a large photo, typed journaling, and scattered embellishments. Our card sketch uses multiple stamped images just above a stamped title, and our pocket page sketch features an embellished 3" x 4" title card and a 4" x 6" photo with a couple of added sentiments. Creative Team member Maggie Massey is joining us this week and sharing her take on the week's pocket sketch! Be sure to follow Maggie here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her.
Our scrapbook sketch comes from Mandie Pierce's Hello Snow layout:
Our card sketch comes from Jenn Picard's Would Zoo Be Mine? card:
And our pocket page sketch comes from Mandie Pierce's Wonderful Winter spread:
And here's Maggie's take on our scrapbook sketch:
Hey, everyone! Maggie here! Wanna know a secret? I LOVE when I'm chosen to do a Sunday Sketch post...and by "LOVE," I mean LOOOOOOOOOOVE. Really - they are my very favorite. Sketches, to me, are so fun to work with because I feel like the hardest part of the work - the actual design of the layout - has already been done for you! When I saw this week's scrapbook layout sketch, I knew immediately that I wanted to follow the same general formula. I really, really love Mandie's silhouette photo, so I set out to do pretty much the same thing for my page.
I opened my photo in Photoshop and used the pen tool to "carve out" the general shape of my photo. After deleting the background of my photo, I was able to print just my daughter alone onto an 8.5" x 11" sheet of photo paper. I adhered my photo to a sheet of 12" x 12" white cardstock, and set out to add my patterned paper and embellishments.
Again, Mandie's layout was just perfect to me. The only real change I made was to flip the patterned papers vertically. I typed a little message directly onto my photo, added a stamp from the Sabrina add-on kit and a few more little stickers (also from Sabrina), and I was done!
This is one of my new favorites. If you follow my Instagram story (@maggiemassey), you may have seen that I was having a little trouble deciding on which patterned papers to use - these (from the Roman Holiday Scrapbook Kit and Funny Face add-on kit) or the designs on the back of each of them (the black stars and a subtle mint-green pattern). I can't tell you just how happy I am that I decided on the pinks. ACK! I absolutely adore the pop of pink, yellow and orange with the black and white photo!
Thanks so much for taking a look. I hope I've inspired you to pick a sketch (or all 3!) and create your own version of it this week!
