Using the Written in the Stars Scrapbook Kit with Catherine Davis

Tags:

I wanted to share a project using our specialty paper in the Written in the Stars Scrapbook Kit. The words are printed in a way that resists many mediums. I used watercolors for this project (my kids' set in this case), but you could use other paints, pastels, coloring pencils, etc. to add color and design around the phrase. It's fun to play with!

I decided to do watercolor stripes in rainbow color order to play off of my image. I did one pass of color, let it dry, and then went back for a second pass to build color. Letting the paper dry in between layers gives a better visual effect as well as preserving the integrity of the paper. If any paper gets too wet, it starts to breakdown. Once the final dry was complete, I put the paper under some heavy books to flatten it out a bit.

From there, I added my image, layering a black and white patterned paper underneath. I wanted a paper with black in it to play off all the black in the image. To tie the black in even further, I stamped and journaled in the top corner, as well as hand drew stars around the page. The stars help balance out the weight of the image since it's so bold.

I hope this inspires you to experiment a bit with this paper, as well as using some artistic techniques to pull your pages together! If you have any questions at all, please leave a comment below. I'd be happy to help!
