Blog: Using the Northern Lights Kits with Kelly Noel

Hello, SC friends! I can hardly believe that Christmas is just a few days away. Where does the time go?! Since we're in the Christmas spirit around here, I really wanted to use the Arctic add-on for this layout. I love the patterns in the papers, and the die-cut pack is just perfect for accenting holiday pages or would be great in December Daily projects, too!

This past February, we got a new puppy! She's the cutest and sweetest little (or not so little at 70 lbs now!) thing. One of our favorite things about her is that she's a Christmas puppy, born on Christmas day! We have big plans to celebrate her first birthday this year on Christmas, but I wanted to document it on a layout, too, and the Arctic add-on kit was perfect.

I started with a great picture of our pup in front of the Christmas tree—that Christmas light bokeh gets me every time! I trimmed the patterned papers into small 1" x 1" squares. If you turn the squares on the diagonal, they look like diamonds, so I arranged them that way in a pattern being careful not to place similar patterns too close to each other.

I also added the transparency from the main "Northern Lights" Kit on top of the background and pattern I created with the papers. I love how this gives a "wintry" feel without adding too much busyness or clutter to the page. I layered my photo on top of the pattern I created with the papers, and thanks to the die-cut pack, I was able to add a couple of die-cuts easily on top of and underneath my photo. A trio of enamel dots and some journaling strips was all I needed to finish this page.
