SC Kit Announcement

Since its beginning, Studio Calico has been on the forefront of modern memory keeping. Our goal is, and has always been, to provide products and inspiration to document memories with fresh and trend-forward designs. And as we head towards our 11th year anniversary, we’re keeping our focus on that vision.

Our June kits will be the last release for both our Scrapbook and Planner Kits. This wasn’t an easy decision to make—our Scrapbook Kit is where it all started. There has been a drastic change in the memory keeping industry over the last 11 years, and we are continually thankful for all our loyal customers, their feedback, and the ever-evolving community of paper lovers. Looking ahead, we’re excited to focus our energy on the Documenter Kits, Stamp Subscription, and the NEW Traveler’s Notebook Kits. We invite you to join us for our June reveal tomorrow and cannot wait for July when we reveal the new TN Kit.

Our main goal remains the same: to provide beautifully-designed, custom, and high-quality products to your doorstep each month to help you preserve your memories for years to come. With a change as big as this, we’re sure you’ll have questions. Please leave them in the comments below and we’ll post a follow-up with answers. If you need help with a question specific to your own subscription or status, please reach out to our Customer Service team.

How do I switch to the new Traveler’s Notebook Kit?

  • If you are a Scrapbook or Planner Kit subscriber, simply visit the Traveler’s Notebook Kit page and sign up for a new subscription. Our system will automatically convert your Scrapbook subscription status over to your new Traveler’s Notebook Kit subscription.

How do I switch to a Documenter Kit or Stamp Subscription?

  • We would be happy to help you transfer your Scrapbook or Planner Kit subscription to our Documenter Kit or Stamp Subscription. Please reach out to our Customer Service team and we’ll make that change for you.

What will happen to the Scrapbook Kit Workshop?

  • Our scrapbook workshops will continue, just in a slightly different format. Our teachers and contributors will be sharing ways to combine and use your past kits to make the most of your stash.

What will happen to the Planner Kit Workshop?

  • June will be our last planner workshop.

Will there be a TN Kit Workshop?

  • Yes! We’re excited to start the new TN workshop in July. You’ll be able to sign up on July 1st with reveal.

I’m a Scrapbook or Planner subscriber—how will this affect my rewards status?

  • If you are a rewards member based on length of subscription, you’ll need to transfer to our Traveler’s Notebook, Documenter, or Stamp Subscription to maintain that status. If you’re a rewards member based on your spending, you won’t see any change.

Will you continue to offer Scrapbook and Planner products?

  • We will continue to make and curate traditional scrapbooking supplies for our shop releases, as well as planner-friendly products.

What happens if I have a Scrapbook or Planner Kit Subscription and don't opt to switch to a new kit?

  • If you don't decide to switch your current subscription to our TN, Documenter, or Stamp kits, your subscription will simply end after you are charged for your upcoming June kit. There will be no cancellation fees, and you don't need to do anything else to avoid future charges.

Newflash...not everyone likes the Travelers Notebook style of memory keeping...I've put up with a lot here at SC, but sadly this might be the last straw. I will miss my SB kit and while I like the DK, I don't use enough of the cards to justify buying it.

Sigh...now I need to find another place to buy my supplies from...

So will there still be 12x12 papers offered or some sized sheets of patterned paper? I love having my paper to play with! The notebooks in the new kit already have the papers in them. I like the blank notebook and the ability to put the paper where and if I like in mine.

We'll continue to have shop releases with more traditional supplies. I've also found that it's easy to take apart / trim down notebooks in the most recent planner kits to go into notebooks I've already started. As a bonus, the pages are a bit thinner than regular patterned paper so it adds less bulk.

This is unfortunate, and frankly upsetting after years of loyalty. I understand the desire to adapt to new trends, but remember there are still plenty of us out there that want an actual scrapbook with real page protectors and real creativity... not a pocket page shortcut or a non-durable travelers notebook fad.

This is really unfortunate. I HATE the travelers notebook style. I really think this is a bad move. Is there a way we can have our scrapbook workshop cancelled? If you aren't going to be doing the scrapbook kits, I don't see a point in having the scrapbook workshop.

I am super sad...I love my traditional SB kits. I still do 12x12 and 8.5x11 layouts all the time!
Please consider alternating the Travelers notebook kits. I have already signed up for them but I do not want patterned paper already in the notebooks all the time. Please consider alternating and sometimes doing plain paper in some so that we can decorate as we choose.

I also hope you stay true to your word and continue to have regular traditional SB products in the store! New releases would be great! Would beg again for graph/ledger gray backgrounds like you used to have. I thought we were supposed to get more of that this year!

I'll pass along your feedback. For now, we are planning on doing the custom notebooks, since you can get plain ones almost anywhere. I have had good luck taking them apart and using the pages like patterned paper in notebooks that I've already started, so that may be something you could consider trying.

I have not had lots of experience with TN yet so I will try to take it apart and see how I like it. I love the cover being a patterned paper that matches the kit though...just think maybe every few months, a notebook with a pretty cover but plain paper would be nice. This will be something different to try so even though I am sad about the SB kit going, it will be fun to explore the TN fad! Thanks

While I love the Scrapbook Kit and will miss it, I can fully appreciate that change is inevitable in all industries. I wish you the very best as you 'craft' a new direction and likely new followers!!
PS As a previous commenter said, I too would prefer plain paper TN's. I have held off subscribing to the TN kit because of the pre-made, patterned paper notebooks.

I like to scrap in all different formats, so I'm not as unhappy as some (and am very excited about the new TN kits!), but I'm sad at the end of an era. I'm pretty sure I will always scrap in the 12X12 format, though, and now I am happier than ever than I haven't purged a single SC 12X12 paper. So I should have enough to carry me into old age! Good luck, SC, as you move in this new direction.

Such bad news! But I understand that you have to adapt to the new interest of some people and need to renew.
I'll give a try to the TN kits so I can see if I continue or not with SC after the end of my subscriptions.
Fortunally I have several Scrapbook kits still waiting.

Right now I am so unhappy. I have been with you all for nine years and two months. As you can see, I don't like change but I never thought that you would get rid of the SB kits. I really have no use for a once a month little traveler booklet. I don't scrap that way. I could have switched to the planner kit but that's gone too. Now for me, it's a wait and see.

I am not happy with this change! I think its great to keep up with trends - but to just drop your MAIN attraction??? Travellers notebooks are so tedious and time consuming, why not offer both? This really sucks, good bye studio calico

Oh wow, I think Traveler's notebooks are so fun quick and easy!
I use them as well as scrapping Pocket Pages and traditional 12x12s.
But I do understand the sadness of losing something you love... :0(
Just curious, why do you find them tedious and time consuming @chanawasserman?
I think the small size allows me to make quick easy layouts during those times when I don't have a lot of time but want to be creative!

@DoreenaV the smaller space limits my creativity. I took a trip and tried the travelers notebook, a year ago, and still havent finished it! To me its much easier to do a layout, then a small book..

I have enjoyed your Scrapbook kits immensely since Dec. 2014. (I wish I would have found out about them sooner.) I am very, very sad and today marks a sad, sad day! I just referred someone here recently because your Scrapbook kit is so unique! I love the interesting paper patterns and the embellishments are so awesome!!! I, like someone else mentioned here, got so excited to check the mail to see if it had arrived! I am trying to understand business decisions...many of us LOVE the feel of PAPER in our hands. I will always be a paper scrapbooker as I am a texture material artist. Another thing, haven't planners only been the craze for only 1 to 2 years?? I got a MAMBI one for 2018! I want to understand, but can't do so. I will be looking elsewhere. Uniqueness of the product is the key thing for me. If any of you know of other kit suggestions, I'd love to know them. See, I chose to subscribe to yours, but now you are deciding that I will purchase the supplies I need, not from you, but elsewhere. Again, a very, very, sad, sad day.

I like the versatility of mixing & using different formats. Combining SB layouts, with DK layouts and smaller inserts in one album, keeps me happy. I hope you keep an open mind to reinstating the SB kit in future or at least continue to offer 12 x 12 papers, appropriate sized SB embellishments & continue to provide albums. I like TN just like my own handmade mini books for one off trips/events but as a long term way to document my stories I don't enjoy putting them together as much as my other layouts. The larger size layouts allow much more freedom to get creative and to experiment. TNs due to their small size, don't.

@northrigg. I just started dabbling in TN layouts. I think it’s fun, but it doesn’t seem very durable. With no page protector, I don’t see it lasting very long if anyone looks at it and turns the pages much.

@Aprilfoster I admire being open to new things but chasing every shiny new trend is a bit ridiculous - especially when you throw away the tried and true - first the card kit and now the scrapbook kit 😯😔

I’m stunned - I was so excited for the summer of sketches and was seriously thinking about resubscribing. I’ve found that the excitement of new supplies really did help keep me motivated to play with paper. Frankly TN memory keeping just annoys me - i don’t have enough room to play on each layout. Since you are no longer supporting traditional memory keeping, will you offer a refund if taking the class here no longer makes sense for those of us who registered?

@penny that's a good point. But I am wondering if I would have been better off investing in a class with a kit club that is going to continue to support traditional scrapbooking rather than focusing on two forms of memory keeping I don't enjoy at all

I must have missed my email. I just started a scrapbook sub, so I’d expect to get an email about it. I would NOT have checked here to find out the commitment I made is no longer available. But I saw something on Facebook about it. I thought it was probably incorrect because I didn’t see a message sent to me as a subscriber. Weird.

I just re-subbed to the SB kit too. An email would have been a better way to make this announcement in my opinion. I've been a part of SC in some way or another since their 3rd kit and I feel a bit disappointed by them not reaching out to the broader newsletter/subscriber base with this important announcement. Perhaps it's scheduled to go out later today as a follow up.

So sad to hear this news. Your carefully curated SB kit started me subbing here in 2011. I haven’t missed one since then. I understand that the business is changing (we lost our LSS in the last year too), and you have to change with anticipated interest. I continue to scrapbook 12x12, so will continue to look for these products (here and elsewhere). I’ll keep my stamp sub (for now...)

I'm so sad to hear you guys aren't making the Scrapbook kit anymore. I still scrapbook traditional 12x12 and 9x12 layouts and I don't plan on switching to a TN anytime soon but I hope that you guys will continue to make products I can use. Who knows maybe I will bite the bullet and try a travelers notebook.
