Try This | Stitching

Stitching details are everywhere these days. From clothing to home decor and of course the trend has trickled it's way down into paper crafting too. I love all of the different stitching looks, whether it's the messy/artsy look, the graphic linear type or even faux stitching that's done with just a pen. There are so many ways to add stitching to your pages. We've started a stitching inspiration board over on Pinterest - here's a few of the images we've been inspired by lately :

I have a sewing machine, but I don't have the first clue how to use it. I've taken it out a few times and pretty much given up ever figuring that thing out. ;) But I love that I can still achieve a similar look with hand stitching (even if it does take a little more time and patience!). For this layout, I knew I wanted to create a big circle and fill it with those adorable plastic wonky hearts from the Sugar Rush main kit. Once I had all of the elements in place though it still needed just a little something extra and that's when I decided to try some hand stitching around the circle. It gives it just a little bit more detail, which was exactly what I was going for. A simple thing, but it really added a lot to the page!

Here's another example of hand stitching from Nicole Samuels' Sparkle layout. I love the way she embellished the stitching with enamel dots.

I love how Geralyn uses her white pen to create faux stitching. On her Friends layout she added some to the kraft clouds from the main kit.

Lisa is the queen of machine stitching. Here she used her sewing machine to stitch down different bits of patterned paper and embellishments.

Whether you have a sewing machine or not, adding stitching details is a great way to add detail and dimension to your projects. Won't you try this trend with us? Tag #SCtrythis when you upload your project to our gallery or to Instagram!

I tried to sew in a circle. Why do I forget how hard that is? Every. Single. Time.

I love hand-stitching! I find it so relaxing - yes relaxing - more so than fighting with my sewing machine sometimes! If only Grandma could hear me now! Love all the wonderful ideas!
