November's featured teachers

Documenter Kit Workshop - Azzari Jarrett

Azzari is a photographer and designer inspired by simple, everyday moments. You can usually find her carrying one too many (film) cameras, with a toddler on her hip, and two little girls by her side. She loves to combine her images with words to document the story of her life.  She also enjoys a good morning run, a daily cup of coffee, evenings on the beach, and most recently, painting with watercolor. Azzari lives with her husband and three daughters on the North Carolina Coast.

Favorite things about the month's kit:

My favorite things included in the "Homestead" Kits are the fall-themed floral journal cards and vellum pockets. The "Homestead" Kit is so versatile; I love how you can document fall layouts as well as simple, everyday moments.

What she'll be teaching:

In the first lesson, we’ll document a fall-themed layout using the beautiful elements in this month’s kit. I’ll show you how to include simple Instax photos in your layouts. In the second lesson, we’ll use our digital printable included in this month’s workshop to document things that we're thankful for this month. Finally, in the last lesson, we’ll take a deeper dive using the main kit. I’ll show you how to use the kit to document a special trip.

Takeaways:

By the end of this workshop, I want subscribers to challenge themselves by using different page protectors with their layouts. I’d also like for subscribers to document their home as well as people, places, and things that they are grateful for this month. I’ll share some creative inspiration to get started!

Azzari will be joined by three talented contributors this month: Jen CarlsonCarson Riutta, and Mel Blackburn. As always, each workshop comes with a free digital item. Check out this awesome printable Azzari will be using in this month's workshop:

Planner Kit Workshop - April Orr

April Orr is a self-described mom of the hot mess variety, wifey of 14 years, and junior high English teacher on a classroom hiatus recovering from a recent move. Planning helps her look like she has it all figured out and helps her be at the right place at the right time—her sons' shoes and backpack not always guaranteed. Living in a land of all things sports and boy, crafty projects have long been a source of happiness for her. Decorative planning allows her to combine function with a lifelong love of pretty papers and pens. Clean lines, white space, and practicality are her jam.

Favorite things about the month's kit:

LOVE LOVE LOVE the free printable. I adore them. I also love the floral paper and kraft stickers.

What she'll be teaching:

  • Lesson 1: Magic of three and the breakdown of designing a horizontal page.
  • Lesson 2: Using stickers and the free printable to plan your page. Focus on white space and balance.
  • Lesson 3: All free printable
  • Bonus Part of Lesson 3: Using remaining stickers to spice up your monthly page.

Takeaways:

There is no right or wrong way to plan. Pages are incredibly versatile; make them work for you. And the thing I most hope you get out of this workshop is the magic of three: three colors for a balanced look, three main sections, three stickers/pieces of washi when layering.

April will be joined by three talented contributors this month: Maggie MasseyLindsay Bateman, and Kylie Kingham. As always, each workshop comes with a free digital item. Check out this awesome printable April will be using in this month's workshop:

Scrapbook Kit Workshop - Meghann Andrew

Meghann Andrew is a 30-something wife to a Brit, mother to a micro-preemie, maker, and excessive coffee drinker who currently resides near Houston, Texas, but has lived in several states, as well as the U.K. She currently designs and serves as the blog and classroom coordinator for Elle's Studio, and is a design team member for Scrapbook and Cards Today Magazine, as well as American Crafts. Meghann studied and practiced interior design, and design drives most of her decisions when creating. She teaches about the principles of design and how they relate to scrapbooking, as well as how to create successful scrapbooking titles at Big Picture Classes. You can find more of her work at her blog and her Instagram account.

Favorite things about the month's kit:

  • Sweater Weather patterned paper
  • Cardstock foiled die-cut embellishments
  • Enamel dots

What she'll be teaching:

In lesson one, we'll be using the kit stamp to create our own background patterned paper! I often do this when I want to use certain colors or graphics that I don’t see represented in paper form. And with any ink colors to choose from, the design possibilities are endless! In lesson two, I want you to look for photos that include text that can be used to build your page title. I often do this when I have a sign in the background of my photo. In lesson three, we're going to frame our page and learn how to embellish in a way that lets the viewer know what's most important: the photos!

Takeaways:

Stamping can be such a fun, useful technique when designing scrapbook layouts, and the stamped image doesn't have to be perfect to create the perfect page! Look for cues in your photos to help you design your pages so that the photo and elements on your page harmonize. Save every bit of paper that's going to be covered up by another paper—it may be just the perfect piece for your next layout!

Meghann will be joined by three talented contributors this month: Kelly NoelNeela Nalam, and Emma Wood. As always, each workshop comes with a free digital item. Check out this awesome printable Meghann will be using in this month's workshop:
