Using the Homestead Scrapbook Kit with Nancy Damiano

Tags:

Hey there, Studio Calico fans! Nancy here today with a closer look at the brand new "Homestead" Scrapbook Kit! When I first opened my kit, the first thing that caught my eye was the sheet of hexagon stickers. Full of color, great shape, and variety of sizes make them the perfect focal point for a layout.

I started the layout by creating a 9" x 12" base of white cardstock with thinner strips of orange hexagon patterned paper and gray cardstock. I started by building a pattern of interlocking hexagon stickers on a diagonal across the page.

To add a little design interest, I used a small black and white photo and added it to the hexagon pattern. I created this by placing the negative of the yellow hexagon sticker right on the photo. Then I cut around it leaving just a sliver of a yellow frame around the photo. It's an instant pop of design flair and color!

I love the sentiments on the stamp set this month. I wanted to add it to this design without having it fade into the background. I filled up three different spots in the hexagon sticker pattern with one of the stamps and it works. The text stands out in black ink and it add's a bit of design spice.

Lastly, the focal point photo of NYC was placed in the center with a smaller black and white photo layered just on top. The journaling strip was added underneath. A handful of enamel dots were scattered through the hexagon shapes to add a pop of texture.

I hope this layout gives you some design flair ideas using the "Homestead" Scrapbook Kit to tell your story!
