Guest Designer | Jennie McGarvey

We're thrilled to have the lovely and talented Jennie McGarvey as one of our guest designers this month and are excited to get to know her better today! Be sure to follow Jennie here at Studio Calico to keep up with her and see more of her beautiful work.

Hi, everyone! I'm Jennie McGarvey. I'm a full-time stay-at-home mom of three active, sports-loving, school-aged boys who happen to play baseball year round in Southern California. In addition to my mom roles, I'm also a social media coordinator for a clear stamp company. I'm a SoCal transplant, having grown up in Iowa and lived in Kentucky, Ohio, New Jersey, and Indiana before coming to Southern California. I absolutely love to read, spend time with my family, and hang out at the beach in addition to my continued love with paper crafts.

I've been scrapbooking since 2000 and a few years ago dove back into the world of paper planners. It appeals to my love of paper, stationery, and pens while being 100% functional. I'm currently comfortable creating 12" x 12" scrapbook pages, memory planner layouts in my BIG Happy Planner®, and planning weekly in both a Classic Happy Planner® and a Traveler's Notebook.

Traveler's Notebook Insert - Title Page: I needed to start a new Traveler's Notebook insert and I wanted the first page to be both pretty and inspiring—something I could easily refer back to. I knew the colors in the kit were absolutely perfect for this; they are cheerful and the stripes in the patterned paper really speak to my classic sensibilities. I kept the design simple and linear so that I would feel refreshed each time I looked at the page.

September Monthly View - MINI Happy Planner®: Each month I find myself looking for a new way to use the monthly view in my Happy Planner®. I can't seem to find the perfect to use it! However, I come back to the simple every so often and I think I'll rest there for now. That includes some simple decor and marking the highlights of each week. This kit and these stamps? Totally what I had envisioned!

September 4-10, 2017 Happy Planner® Weekly View: I'm an avid Happy Planner® user and complete believer in the weekly view. I can stay oh-so-organized and check things off my to-do list. I love knowing what is going on and how I can mark things off. I was super excited to use the beautiful alpha stickers (the color!) to note what each row is for since they are classic and the perfect size. I don't use a ring bound planner (seems like the only planner I don't use!) but the pad included in the kit was so versatile there was no reason I couldn't make it work directly on my planner pages.
